What fun it was to run barefoot in a race again… Around and about Victoria Park, before the rain came pouring down…

Not quite a beach, (my plan is to travel to beaches all around the world to run on…) but a joyous playtime experience none the less…

It was Mothers day too!

I had been invited to be the ‘warm up artiste’ for the three ‘RunThrough’ races in the park; a half marathon, a 10k and then a 5k.

I took my vibram five fingers off for the 5k warmup, and carried it  out barefoot on the grass, before running with all the runners around the beautiful park

The warm ups were such fun, hundreds of people standing in front of me, the energy building to propel everyone around the course…

And I chatted on – as we moved and bounced and stretched as one –  about the years gone by, the times before strava and mass participation – the times when it seemed a strange thing to choose to spend your time running about…

‘What do you do to have fun though’, people would ask

‘I run to have fun’

“You run on Christmas Day?’ ‘You run on holiday?’

‘But what about having time to yourself, time off, time to have fun?’

‘Running is fun, time to myself and time off’

I would reply…

And now everything is different – lots and lots of people run to have fun!

And I am still running, in the step, with the backdrop ever changing – but my step still steady.

One step after the other, one step leading to the other on this running path, life path, this human experience…

My spirit running free, my body all my spirit can be.

And with my feet naked, there is always a calling to the step, to stay there

To be present

To be

Presence personified in each step we take on this life journey, where the goal is to tread lightly and leave no trace

The past disappearing as if it never were and all that remains is this step

Now
