I planned a Brockenhurst birthday for Anadi…
I love birthdays and I love planning!
A perfect opportunity for me to indulge in both…
Anadi loves gin and so it had to be ‘Thatched Cottage Hotel’…
It has a very comprehensive and colourful gin bar….
All of my birthday plans unfolded with perfect precision…
Starting with Parkrun and following on from there…
Except – that we ran out of time to drink gin in the gin bar before going out for dinner!
But that didn’t matter…!
The good thing about plans is they allow for spontaneity, for going with the flow
They are only a problem when they become rigid because of any rigidity within us
When we hold plans and goals with a light touch, we can properly enjoy the unfolding
And live the moment
Fully
Knowing that really and truly it doesn’t matter if everything turns out differently to our original plan!
The secret is in being flexible and agile and trusting the flow
When I first started training in therapy, I was already a therapist
It had found me…As a personal trainer I had ended up with people booking the time for PT but wanting to have some talking therapy rather than physical therapy..
I went to Ross Draper for guidance, and she supervised me and directed me where to go for more professional development and formal training!
But she also taught me and coached me to drew out my own map of how I already was working with people..
I had said that I didn’t want to lose my spontaneity and intuitive way of working…
She guided me to see that far more spontaneity was able to come out of knowing what I was doing…
And over the years I have discovered this to be true everywhere
With knowing how to train, but going with the flow…
With planning my week, my work, my leisure time…
But adjusting in the moment to what is occurring in the moment…
Spontaneity coming out of a plan and a map…
But making it up as I go along
Life a paradox!
