I started to run the moment I could walk…
That’s almost 64 years ago now…
I was born on the12th of May in 1959, and the story goes that just nine months later, I stood up – I leaned forward – and started to run, on my tippy toes – everywhere…
I haven’t stopped running since.
Maybe I came here to run?
To let my spirit express itself through the running step, and to have fun doing so….
Well… It started out being fun – when I was a little girl – and at the start of my teenage years it was still a lot of fun….
I joined an athletics club in the summer of 1974, when I was fifteen – the club was all boys… I started the female section, and running about on the track and the common – trying to keep up with the boys – was the best fun…
I was also getting faster and stronger and loving every step…
But, then – in my late teens and into my twenties – I started to put far too much pressure on myself!
I was running super fast, but I always wanted to run faster and I was rarely satisfied…
The joy left my running then…
I had to work quite hard to shift the attachment to the struggle and the pressure, which had spoilt it all!
I knew though, that having fun was what I came here to do and be and have, not to feel pressure and stress in every step…
So clear it away I did
And, by eliminating that bit, running soon became fun again….
And now, almost half way through my sixties, I still love trying to run fast – like the wind – faster and faster, free as a bird…
Flying on land!
Trying to run fast and faster still, is fun for me!….
It has always been this way
But not being satisfied with what the spirit expresses is no fun at all!
My spirit free in every running step…
Expressing the I that has no I dentity, because all is stripped away in the run
When I run and become
Free
This is what is is all about for me…
The song ‘Spirit” by ‘The Waterboys’ says it all, I think
Man gets tired
Spirit don’t
Man surrenders
Spirit won’t
Man crawls
Spirit flies
Spirit lives when man dies
Man seems
Spirit is
Man dreams
The beautiful
spirit lives
Man is tethered, tied, bound
Spirit is free
What spirit is
Man can be
